Project Description

The Malabar Starling: A Jewel of Southwestern India

Nestled in the lush landscapes of southwestern India, the Malabar starling graces the region with its presence. Once considered a mere subspecies of the chestnut-tailed starling, this bird has emerged as a distinct marvel of nature. Its nesting habits are a testament to its adaptability, choosing tree holes 3-15 mm above the ground as its sanctuary.

The starling's young ones are voracious eaters, indulging in a diverse diet that includes insects, lepidopteran larvae, beetles, small vertebrates, and even nectar. This eclectic palate not only sustains them but also highlights their role in the ecosystem.
