Project Description

Let’s delve into the captivating world of the Pseudagrion indicum, also known as the yellow-striped blue dart or yellow-striped dart. This damselfly species is a gem found exclusively in the Western Ghats of India.

Appearance:
- It is a medium-sized damselfly with black-capped greenish eyes.
- The thorax features black dorsum with black humeral stripes, while the area between them is pale green.
- The lateral sides of the thorax shimmer in azure blue.
- Abdominal segments 1 and 2 exhibit azure blue color with black marks on the dorsum. The mark on segment 2 resembles a chalice or thistle-head.
- Segments 3 to 7 are black on the dorsum and pale green on the sides.
- Segments 8 and 9 dazzle in azure blue with black apical annules, while segment 10 remains black.
- In females, the thorax is yellowish green, and the eyes are capped with yellowish green. The abdomen color is similar to that of males but paler. Segments 8 and 9 in females are also black, adorned with fine apical blue rings, and segment 10 appears blue.
Habitat:
- The Pseudagrion indicum breeds in small streams and associated marshes within sub-montane and montane areas of the Western Ghats.
- Its presence adds to the biodiversity of this ecologically rich region, where lush forests and pristine waterways intersect.
