The peacock royal (Tajuria cippus) is a striking species of lycaenid or blue butterfly found in the Indomalayan realm.

Appearance:
- Male: The upper side of the male peacock royal features dark cyaneous-blue wings that shine blue-green under certain lighting conditions.
- The forewing has nearly the apical half black, a narrow black band on the costa extending to the end of the cell, and a blue color for the rest of the wing.
- The hindwing has a broadly black costal band, finely black outer marginal lines, and black abdominal fold. Tails are black with white tips.
- Underside: Grey with occasional faintly indicated black thin lunules on the forewing.
- Antennae are black with white rings, and the club has a red tip.
- Eyes are ringed with white, and the head and body match the wing color.
Female:
- The upper side of the female is pale greyish-blue.
- Forewings are darker toward the base, with marginal bands that are broader on the costa and narrower at the apex compared to males.
- Hindwings are generally darker than forewings, with paler bands and a discal band of somewhat lunular marks.
- Underside: Similar to males, but the discal series on both wings is nearly always present.
Distribution:
- The peacock royal is found in the Indomalayan realm.
- In Sri Lanka, it can be rare due to deforestation in some parts of the country.
Subspecies:
- Tajuria cippus cippus: Found in North India, Assam, and Thailand. This subspecies is legally protected in India under Schedule II of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972¹ 1 ² 4.
