Rhyothemis variegata, also known as the common picture wing or variegated flutterer, is a species of dragonfly belonging to the family Libellulidae. These striking dragonflies are found in South Asia.

Description: Rhyothemis variegata is a medium-sized dragonfly with a dark body and colorful wings tinted with pale yellow. The fore-wings have a few black spots on the apices and nodes, while the hind-wings feature a large patch at the base marked with black and golden yellow. In females, the apical half of the fore-wings is transparent, while the basal half is tinted with golden-yellow and black marks. The hind-wings also have transparent apical ends, with the rest of the wings marked in golden-yellow and black.

Habitat: These dragonflies breed in marshes, ponds, and paddy fields. Interestingly, their flight appears weak, and they can sometimes be mistaken for butterflies.
