Vestalis gracilis, commonly known as the clear-winged forest glory or clear-winged flash-wing, is a species of damselfly belonging to the family Calopterygidae. It is native to Southeast Asia and surrounding regions.
Description: The male and female are similar in size. The male has an abdomen measuring 45 to 46 millimeters long and a hindwing spanning 34 to 38 millimeters. In contrast, the female’s abdomen ranges from 43 to 50 millimeters, and her hindwing measures 36 to 39 millimeters. The male displays iridescent green coloration with a yellow and black underside, brown legs, and blue-tinged transparent wings. Its eyes are dark brown above and greenish-yellow below. The female, though less vibrant, is greenish-brown in color.
Habitat: Vestalis gracilis is a common species across much of its range. It breeds in forest streams, often even in disturbed and cultivated areas. You can commonly spot groups of these damselflies resting among bushes along forest paths and shaded areas, often alongside Vestalis apicalis.
