Project Description

The Centaur Oakblue (Arhopala centaurus) is a captivating species of lycaenid or blue butterfly found in India and southeast Asia, extending to the Philippines. Let me share some intriguing details about this delightful butterfly:

  • Description:

    • Male: The upper side of the male Centaur Oakblue is very dark blue with a violaceous tint. It features a black outer marginal fine border, black cilia, and a rather broad black tail at the end of vein 2. The abdominal space appears pale. On the underside, the forewing displays a combination of violet-brown and pale ochreous brown, adorned with pale blue edgings. The hindwing is uniformly ochreous-brown with a violet tint and distinct brown markings edged in pale whitish.
    • Female: The female is paler than the male, exhibiting a more violaceous-blue upper side. The undersides are similar but lighter in color.
  • Habitat and Range:

    • The Centaur Oakblue inhabits diverse ecosystems, from forests to grasslands. Its range extends across India, southeast Asia, and the Philippines.
