The dark-branded bush brown (Mycalesis mineus) is a fascinating satyrine butterfly found in Asia. Let me share some details about this beautiful species:

Wet-season form:
- Upperside: Dark Vandyke brown with slender subterminal and terminal pale lines on both forewings and hindwings.
- Forewing features a single white-centered, fulvous-ringed, black ocellus, often set in a square pale area in interspace 2.
- Hindwing may have one or two obscure postmedian ocelli.
- Underside: Similar ground color with a transverse dusky-white discal band, followed by a postdiscal series of ocelli surrounded by a dusky-yellowish or purplish-white line.
- The ocelli resemble those on the upperside.
- Pale or purplish-white subterminal and terminal sinuous lines complete the pattern ¹.
Dry-season form:
- Upperside is similar to the wet-season form but paler.
- Underside ranges from ochraceous brown to dusky brown, with the basal half of the wings darker than the outer portions.
- Fine brown striae (speckles) cover the surface.
- Ocelli are nearly obsolete, indicated by tiny white specks.
- The male sex-mark in form 1 is as in M. perseus, but the patch of specialized scales on the underside of the forewing is half as large again ¹.
