Project Description

Vazhachal Forest, located in the Thrissur and Ernakulam districts of Kerala, India, is a mesmerizing expanse covering approximately 400 square kilometers. Let’s delve into the natural wonders of this enchanting forest.

Biodiversity: Vazhachal Forest is home to diverse ecosystems, including deciduous and evergreen forests. It harbors over 200 animal species, including majestic elephants and hornbills. Notably, it hosts the sympatric location of three South Indian hornbill species, making it a unique habitat for these magnificent birds.

Waterfalls: The forest is adorned with spectacular waterfalls, and one of the most famous is the Athirapally Falls. These cascades are a sight to behold, surrounded by lush greenery and pristine landscapes. The Vazhachal Falls also add to the forest’s allure, creating a serene and picturesque environment.

Community Forest Resource Use Rights: Efforts have been made to strengthen community involvement in forest management. The local communities play a crucial role in preserving the forest’s natural heritage and ensuring sustainable resource use.
